  7. NASA.txt     - This document is a compilation of material relating
  8. ^^^^^^^^       to NASA and sightings by astronauts of UFO's. The
  9.                material contained herein is not of an original nature
  10.                but can be found in the sources listed at the end of
  11.                the text. There has been much discussion on astronaut
  12.                sightings in the echos. To help stimulate this and get
  13.                us all up to speed on the topic I thought it would be
  14.                informative to collect all the available material into
  15.                one file. I have attempted to collect the facts and present
  16.                the opinions both pro and con conserning each incident.
  17.                I have only listed sources for which I have actual
  18.                copies in my possession. If you know of other sources
  19.                not listed here which specifically relate to NASA
  20.                encounters, please let me know. You assistance is
  21.                appreciated.

  33.    If you were on a mission to study the inhabitants of the planet we
  34.    call earth would you not be interested in the primitive attempts at
  35.    early space travel. It seems that UFO's have been especially
  36.    interested in following our space program. Just what do our astronauts
  37.    know that they aren't talking about? What did we find when we went to
  38.    the moon? The astronauts that returned from the moon seemed to be
  39.    profoundly changed by the experience. Why did we seemingly abandon
  40.    our space program following the lunar landings? Why did the Russians
  41.    not even attempt to go to the moon? Was being second so bad or were they
  42.    warned away from that goal. These are all profound questions which I
  43.    cannot attempt to answer. But let's examine the evidence that has been
  44.    collected and then each come to our own conclusions.

  47. MERCURY 7  May 24 1962  (Scott Carpenter)

  49.    A ufo was rumored to have been seen and photographed during this flight
  50.    He did in fact take a picture of a tracking ballon which was ejected
  51.    from the capsule. This picture which was enlarged and photographed
  52.    through a smeared window in the glare of sunlight has been misrepresented
  53.    as a UFO.

  55. MERCURY 8  October 3, 1963  (Wally Schirra)
  56.  
  57.    Rumored to have seen a UFO and coined the term "Santa Claus" as a
  58.    code word for UFO. He reported seeing glowing masses over the Indian
  59.    ocean which were in fact night time lightning clouds. These lights have
  60.    been taken out of context as being a UFO sighting.

  62. MERCURY 9  May 16, 1963  (Gordon Cooper)
  63.  
  64.   On his final orbit Cooper radioed Muchea tracking station near Perth
  65.   Australia that he was being approached by a greenish object moving
  66.   east to west. This is unusual in that it is the opposite direction
  67.   from most manmade orbits. More than 100 persons saw the object on
  68.   tracking gear. Following the mission newsmen were informed that they
  69.   would not be allowed to question Cooper on this aspect of the flight.

  71.     It is also reported that a voice transmission was picked up on a
  72.   special frequency which could not be correlated with any known language.

  74.     It should be noted that Cooper has publically denied having seen
  75.   any UFO in connection with this flight. He did confirm that he saw
  76.   the Aurora Australis which was multi-colored and may have been taken
  77.   by some as a UFO sighting.

  79. GEMINI I   April 1964  (unmanned)
  80.  
  81.   During the first orbit of this unmanned spacecraft it was joined by
  82.   four apparently controlled objects. The tracking station observed
  83.   two objects take up station above Gemini I, with one behind and one
  84.   below. These relative positions were maintained for one orbit after
  85.   which they sped off into space.

  87. GEMINI IV  June 4, 1965  (James A. McDivitt, Edward White)
  88.  
  89.   With White asleep McDivitt reports an unidentified object. He manages
  90.   to take some footage of the object on a movie camera that was mounted
  91.   inside the capsule. The object was first spotted over the Hawaiian Islands.
  92.   Later over the Caribbean both astronauts report seeing two more objects.
  93.   One of the movie frames was released to the press and has been reprinted
  94.   in many books including Frank Edward's book "Flying Saucers Serious
  95.   Business". The photo shows an egg shaped object with a comet like trail
  96.   or glow coming out of it. The movie camera was using 16mm Eastman
  97.   color film shooting at 6 frames per second. The object was yellow -
  98.   white in color. In the transcript that follows McDivitt is reporting
  99.   to the Capsule Communicator.

  106.               just as I was getting close enough to take a good
  107.               picture the sun got in the way and l lost it.

  111. 29 52 45   C  . . . and there are a great number of thunderstorms
  112.               around at the present time. Lightning is actually
  113.               lighting up the interior of the spacecraft... activity ...
  114.               thunderstorms . . .
  115. 29 53 35   C  Okay. ,Go ahead. It doesn't look like I'm going to see him
  116.               again.
  117. 29 57 09  CC  That's affirm --- you still looking at the thing up there?
  118. 29 57 12   C  No I've lost it. It had big arms sticking out of it, it
  119.               looked like. I only had it for just a minute. I got a
  120.               couple of pictures with a movie camera and one with the
  121.               Hasselblad; but I was in free drift, before I could get
  122.               the control back I drifted and lost it.

  125.    McDivitt has publicly denied having seen a aliencraft and states that the
  126.    released picture was not the object that he saw. The released picture
  127.    was a light reflection off the copilot's window. McDivitt believes that
  128.    what he saw was a manmade satellite which was probably not acknowledged
  129.    for defence security reasons. Unlike many of the astronauts McDivitt
  130.    has been willing to speak about his incident with the public and
  131.    press.

  139.                  the States. Range was 2 to 10,000 yards from the
  140.                  spacecraft. You might look around and see if you can
  141.                  see anything. Unfortunately, I can't tell you which
  142.                  direction to look.
